XIII

sometimes in order to step forward,
you need to take a step back
you need to re-evaluate what you considered your priorities
and think to yourself "is this going in the same direction as I am?"
or is it just dragging me somewhere else?
somewhere i don't see myself ever heading..
and if the answer is yes,
then step back and say no
as much as you feel the veins in your heart rip
and the muscles in your throat tense up

that little decision can make or ruin your life
and at the end of the day, the decision is yours to make
Think of it as a choose-your-own-ending book
Yeah, they're silly and don't really make sense
but when your character finally falls into that ditch,
or gets caught up with the ghost
no matter what the ending is
there is no one you can blame but yourself
then, the book doesn't seem so ridiculous after all.
so, the question is-- is that moment of torture
however brief or long it is

worth the ending?

Yes, it is. Because you chose it. You thought and picked between the two options
so wherever you are at the end of this all,
there is no one else responsible but yourself.
But, unlike a book, you can't flip back the pages
you can't re think your decisions

so take that step back
to take that step forward
and choose wisely.
